Showing The Love

This February I have heard a couple of reoccurring themes over and over again. One is “Make you a priority, do what makes you happy” and “I don’t get caught up in the commercialism of Valentine’s Day.” Well, honestly both of these ideas or comments really bother me. It makes me wonder what this world will be like if everyone takes the focus off of others and puts it onto themselves, or they become immune to a holiday that is about showing love to others.

In my own life I have felt very convicted over the last few months to pour into others, serve those I love, stop focusing so much on my own life.  I will share that since I have stopped focusing so much on myself, and poured into lives within an arm’s reach, I have been given more than I could have ever dreamed!

Yesterday I hosted a luncheon for a group of beautiful women who each bring me such joy. They shared their lives with me and each other in a way that was truly heart warming. See, when we pour into other people, they give back, and in turn they enrich our lives by making us feel normal, understood, and part of a community. If I had sat at home reading a good book alone (which often sounds glorious) then I would have missed hearing about their journeys. Now I get to love them, pray for them, and serve them. That is a gift I can and willingly give knowing that I am pretty sure that they will do the same in return for me.

So, yes I 100% give into the commercialism of Valentine’s Day. I sent out handfuls of Valentines to those I love to tell them how special they are. I polished silver and laid out the lace for my luncheon, I have planned a romantic date for my husband and I this weekend, and decorated my home with vintage (big surprise) valentines and hearts everywhere. “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

Let’s celebrate that this weekend! Spread the love friends. Happy Valentines Day!!
